The Green Bay Packers fell to 6-8 on the season with a 34-20 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday. They remain in third place in the NFC North. Tampa Bay’s 34 points tied the season high for points allowed by Green Bay in a single game.
Baker Mayfield has a perfect passer rating in his game against the Green Bay Packers.
Baker Mayfield had the finest game of his career against Green Bay on Sunday, throwing for 381 yards and four touchdowns while maintaining a perfect passer rating of 158.3. Not only is this the best game of Mayfield’s career, but it is also the first time in Lambeau Field history that an opposing quarterback has thrown for a perfect passer rating.
Mayfield’s favorite target today was Chris Godwin, who caught 10 balls for 155 yards in Sunday’s game. Godwin was iffy for the game due to a knee issue, but his stat line plainly indicated that he was 100 percent. In the first quarter, Mike Evans caught four of his six targets for 57 yards and a touchdown.
The Packers faced with secondary injuries when Darnell Savage and Jaire Alexander were declared out before kickoff. This allowed Mayfield and the Buccaneers to move the ball down the field through the air, but passing for a perfect score against any NFL defense is difficult. With a 7-7 record, Baker’s effort keeps the Buccaneers atop the NFC South.
Rookie Wide Receiver Steps Up on the Sidelines Against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Christian Watson was ruled out of Sunday’s game against Tampa Bay due to a hamstring injury he worsened against the Kansas City Chiefs. As a result, the remainder of the Packers’ pass catchers were given more opportunities.
Dontayvion Wicks had his greatest game as a Packer yet in the loss, receiving 6 of 7 targets for 97 yards, leading all Green Bay pass catchers on the day. Wicks has set a new career high in this category, having been selected 159th overall in this year’s selection. If Watson is projected to miss additional time, Wicks will likely continue to produce in his absence.
In the third quarter, Jayden Reed had six catches for 52 yards and a touchdown, including an amazing grab on the sideline that pulled Green Bay within three points. Reed’s game, however, was cut short due to a toe injury sustained in the fourth quarter. He went inside the medical tent before being deemed doubtful to return, but he was not seen for the remainder of the competition.
Jordan Love finished with 284 yards passing and two touchdowns. Love had an efficient day, completing 29 of 39 pass attempts with no interceptions, but it wasn’t enough to outscore the Buccaneers, who were led by Baker Mayfield’s career day.
To be eligible for the playoffs, the Packers must win at least two of their last three regular-season games. Their next chance will be on Sunday, when they travel to Carolina to face Bryce Young and the Carolina Panthers.
