After a domestic violence arrest, the Steelers released a member of their practice squad.

Several hours after police charged him with beating his fiancée, the Pittsburgh Steelers removed a player from their practice squad on Sunday.

acTariq M. Carpenter, 24, allegedly slammed his live-in girlfriend to the ground and held her down against her will during an argument in their apartment in Pittsburgh’s Crawford-Roberts neighborhood around 8 a.m.

According to the criminal complaint, Carpenter is 6-foot-4 and 220 pounds, while his girlfriend is 5-foot-6 and 115 pounds.

Three hours later, the Steelers announced on Twitter that the linebacker had been released. The Steelers did not provide any additional information.

A Pittsburgh police spokesperson, Emily Bourne, verified that the man arrested was the former Steelers player.

According to police, the altercation was sparked by allegations that Carpenter had strayed on his fiancée. According to the lawsuit, Carpenter became enraged, pulled her from bed, and flung her to the floor, bruising her shoulder. According to authorities, he then restrained her and refused to let her go.

According to the lawsuit, Carpenter’s girlfriend scratched his face during their struggle.

She dialed 911 from her cell phone, but Carpetner seized the phone and hung off, according to authorities.

Officers arrived and saw the residence in a state of disorder. According to the complaint, Carpenter claimed officers he was the victim but then acknowledged to hanging up the phone. Carpenter’s story was described by police as “vague and non-descript.”

Carpenter was arrested and charged with simple assault. He was arraigned on Sunday evening and will appear in City Court on January 4 for a preliminary hearing.

Carpenter, a Georgia native, was taken in the seventh round out of Georgia Tech last year by the Green Bay Packers. He was added to the Steelers practice squad prior to the start of the season.
