The Philadelphia Eagles have changed their defensive coaching staff after dropping two straight games to fall to 10-3 on the season.
In the summer, Philadelphia hired Seattle Seahawks defensive assistant Sean Desai to replace Jonathan Gannon, who resigned to become the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals.
Desai was replaced earlier this week by former Detroit Lions head coach Matt Patricia, according to FOX’s Jay Glazer on Sunday.
“A little Eagles scoopage today,” Glazer wrote on Twitter. This week, Philadelphia made a stealth change at defensive coordinator, moving Sean Desai to another role and replacing him with Matt Patricia. Desai remains on the squad in various capacities, although Patricia now leads the defense.”
Patricia was the defensive coordinator for the New England Patriots from 2012 to 2017, and he was an assistant with the Patriots again for the 2021 and 2022 seasons before being appointed as head coach of the Detroit Lions, a post he held from 2018 to 20.
The Eagles started the season 10-1, but then lost back-to-back blowouts, 42-19 to the San Francisco 49ers on Dec. 3 and 33-13 to the Dallas Cowboys on Dec. 10, dropping them to 10-3 and putting them back in contention for the NFC’s top seed heading into the playoffs.
