Taylor Lewan, a free agent in the NFL, was the No. 11 overall choice in the 2014 NFL Draft.
He was an offensive tackle for the Tennessee Titans for nine seasons before joining the Michigan Wolverines for five years (2009-13). Lewan is one of Michigan’s most decorated players, having earned two first-team All-American awards (2012-13) and twice being named Big Ten Offensive Lineman of the Year (2012-13). His team was thrashed by Alabama in the 2012 Cowboy Classic at AT&T Stadium, but Lewan believes Michigan is now better than the Crimson Tide. In a Bussin’ With the Boys podcast session, Lewan stated that Michigan is “top to bottom” better than Alabama and “better coached.”
“Here is what I will say about Alabama, when it was first announced myself knowing my past traumas of dealing with Alabama when Alabama was a dynasty, when they were real, I was like ‘damn, I hope that does not happen again,'” Lewan said in an interview. “I watched the USF film…” I’ve seen some of these games. Let me assure you that if you are a Michigan fan, you have nothing to worry about. Michigan is more well-assembled, harder, and stronger, and we’re going to 34 dive right up its ass in the Rose Bowl.”
According to Lewan, Michigan has been statistically superior in the third quarter this season.
He believes the Wolverines will be able to run the ball effectively against Alabama. Lewan has even placed a wager with Mark Ingram, a former Alabama great. Ingram, the 2009 Heisman Trophy winner, is excited to see how the Tide does against Michiga.
Alabama is not the same team it was against South Florida.
Lewan is cocky, but we’ll see if it comes back to bite him.
