The Pittsburgh Steelers have unveiled a $10 million project that will include a field as well as a child sports and recreation center.

PITTSBURGH, PA (AP) – The Steelers aim to build a $10 million community field and youth recreation center in Hazelwood Green.

The property will be run by Steelers Charities and will bear the Steelers emblem. Youth football clinics with current and former Steelers players and coaches will be held, as will boys and girls flag football games and clinics, as well as the renovation of a 10,000-square-foot building on the site to allow for indoor sports and recreation activities, allowing the site to be used year-round.

Construction will begin the following year. The facility, which will be located near the site’s southeast entrance on Hazelwood Avenue between Gloster Street and Tecumseh Street, is scheduled to open in 2025.

“We are excited to be a part of this special project that will provide our region’s young athletes with access to a state-of-the-art facility at Hazelwood Green,” said Dan Rooney, Steelers director of business development and strategy.

“Not only will the field be utilized for various clinics and games in the community, but the Steelers plan to use the field for community programming and player-led initiatives.”

“Not only will this facility provide a place for Steelers-sponsored programs and events, but it will also be a resource for community organization’s programming,” said Sonya Tilghman, executive director of Hazelwood Initiative Inc. This facility will be an excellent addition to our town, and we are excited to have the Steelers as our neighbors.”

The Richard King Mellon Foundation is providing funding for the initiative.
