The Green Bay Packers Will Not Face the Super Bowl Champion

The Green Bay Packers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers will square off in a “must-win” game on Sunday. Both teams are now 6-7 and are in the thick of the NFC postseason race. With a win, the Packers can keep their seventh-place playoff seed. The NFC South is contested by three teams: the New Orleans Saints, the Atlanta Falcons, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Buccaneers will have to keep up with the rest of their division without a veteran Super Bowl champion.

When the Tampa Bay Buccaneers visit Lambeau Field, the Green Bay Packers will not have to face Super Bowl champion William Gholston.

According to Greg Auman of Fox Sports, Carlton Davis and William Gholston will not compete on Sunday. Furthermore, Bowles noted that Vita Vea, Chris Godwin, Ryan Neal, and the other players listed on Thursday’s injury report would be game-day choices.

CBS Sports reports that:

Gholston will miss his first game since 2017 as he recovers from a knee injury suffered in Week 14 against Atlanta. In his place, Patrick O’Conner could see an increase in defensive line snaps.

This setback will undoubtedly have an influence on Tampa Bay’s defense as they attempt to slow down a Green Bay passing assault that has begun to catch fire, albeit stumbling at times against the New York Giants.

Jordan Love and company may be missing Christian Watson, Aaron Jones, Dontayvion Wicks, and Jayden Reed (though both claim to be ready). Sunday’s game will be a true test of “next man up” for both teams.
