The Green Bay Packers cut a rookie cornerback and signed a former rival wide out.

The Green Bay Packers fell to 6-7 after a 24-22 loss to the New York Giants on Monday Night Football. While they currently retain the NFC’s final playoff berth and control their own destiny, winning their final four regular season games is their most certain path to the NFL Playoffs.

Of course, this is easier said than done. They not only have two division games in the final two weeks of the season, but their next game is against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who are also fighting for a postseason spot and have a 6-7 record.

One of the most significant challenges the Packers face in the last stretch of the season is a slew of injured key players. In particular, the wide receiver room has taken a couple of major hits in each of the last two games.

Christian Watson strained his hamstring against the Kansas City Chiefs, while Dontayvion Wicks sustained what he thinks to be a high ankle sprain against the Giants.

Thyrick Pitts, a former Chicago Bears undrafted rookie wide receiver, has been signed by the Green Bay Packers.

The Packers brought in Thyrick Pitts for a workout last week but did not immediately sign him. However, following Wicks’ injury, it looks that they have decided that they require some additional depth at wide receiver. Pitts was signed to the practice squad on Tuesday, according to the team’s transaction wire.

Pitts attended the University of Delaware, where he was a model of consistency as wide receiver. He has three seasons of 600+ yards receiving between 2019 and 2022. In eight games during the COVID-shortened 2020 season, he collected 29 receptions for 451 yards and three touchdowns.

Pitts recorded 57 receptions for 631 yards and 10 touchdowns in his final season at Delaware in 2022.

Pitts was signed by the Chicago Bears after going undrafted in the 2023 NFL Draft, but was waived in early August. He was later signed by the New England Patriots, with whom he spent training camp. Pitts was also a member of the Patriots’ practice squad.

Green Bay cut practice squad linebacker Austin Ajiake to make place for Pitts.

The Green Bay Packers Have Issued A Press Release Blu Kyu Kelly

In addition to practice squad moves, the Packers dismissed cornerback Kyu Blu Kelly. The Baltimore Ravens selected him in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, however he did not make the team’s 53-man roster. Kelly was then claimed by the Seattle Seahawks, with whom he played special teams in five games.

Kelly was released by Seattle on November 11 and signed with the Packers two days later. He played two defensive plays and three special teams plays against the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving, but he has not played since. Kelly was a healthy scratch for the Packers before their defeat to the Giants on Sunday.

Kelly’s release could indicate that the Packers would finally activate Eric Stokes from injured reserve. He’d already been designated to return, and he was doubtful heading into Monday’s game.
