A new chapter in the Dre Greenlaw-Dom DiSandro feud.
The Philadelphia Eagles were handed their butts by the now-team-to-beat in the NFC, the San Francisco 49ers, 42-19 – at Lincoln Financial Field (Philadelphia), no less – on Sunday during the outstanding game of the non-primetime schedule.
The altercation between now-nationally famous Dom DiSandro, of the Philadelphia Eagles’ security entourage, and star 49ers linebacker, Dre Greenlaw, resulted in both receiving ejections from the officiating crew.
And, while the couple exchanged harsh words, it appears that, for the time being, there has been some form of resolution, likely after some persuasion from both franchises, according to Nick Wagoner:
What Became of Dre Greenlaw and Dom DiSandro?
The initial incident is described in detail by ESPN:
Greenlaw tackled Eagles receiver DeVonta Smith near the Philadelphia sideline with 9:27 left in the third quarter following a 13-yard completion. Greenlaw smashed Smith to the ground and lifted him off his feet, drawing a penalty flag for unnecessary roughness.
Eagles staff and players raced up to Greenlaw and Smith as they stood up and began arguing back and forth with Greenlaw and several of his teammates.
DiSandro took a step toward Greenlaw, who yelled at him and extended his arm. Greenlaw’s hand appeared to make contact with DiSandro’s face while pointing at him, resulting in the disqualification.
Greenlaw clearly became too enraged after drawing a penalty and reacted inappropriately to some overly in-your-face type pranks with opposition sideline players. To be fair, Dom DiSandro, as ‘head of security,’ does not have the’my way or the highway’ bouncer-esque power that his actions would suggest, because football is not a nightclub, and Greenlaw, and all the players, are considerably more than simply thirsty potential consumers.
However, it appears that the incident, which occurred when both persons’ anxieties were at their highest, has been put behind them. When speaking to the media about the resolution, Dre Greenlaw said the following, according to ESPN:
“We just exchanged a formal apology just between me and [Niners general manager John Lynch] and some of the same people that we do know that in the building and stuff like that,” Greenlaw said in a statement. “He appeared to be a genuine guy.” Everyone in the building seemed to like this guy. So, to be honest, I despise that. I’m pretty upset that things progressed to that point.”
Greenlaw is undoubtedly true about the level of respect and reverence shown by Philadelphia Eagles players and fans to Dom DiSandro, and thankfully, it appears that they have both moved on. Now we move on to the next sideline brawl, which will take place next week. Expect high tensions when the Eagles try to avenge their loss with a rivalry game against the Dallas Cowboys, where they are 3.5 point underdogs.
