Following a painful loss to the New York Giants in Week 14, the Green Bay Packers were forced to make some roster changes as they prepare for Week 15 in the hopes of returning to the win column.
The Packers dismissed cornerback Kyu Blu Kelly from the active roster on Tuesday, freeing up a space on the 53-man roster. Eric Stokes, who was placed on the injured reserve in late October, began training again last week. Given that Green Bay released a cornerback, it’s probable that the organization is preparing for the return of Stokes, who is 24 years old.
In addition to Kelly’s release, the team promoted wide receiver Thyrick Pitts to the practice squad and released linebacker Austin Ajiake.
Pitts joins Bo Melton and Grant DuBose on the Packers’ practice squad, giving them three wide outs. This could indicate that the team intends to add one or two wideouts to the roster, especially given the team’s receiving corps’ injuries.
Christian Watson missed the Week 14 game against the Giants due to a hamstring injury, while both rookie receivers Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks were injured in that game. According to SB Nation, Reed has a concussion, while Wicks has an ankle issue.
It remains to be seen what the Green Bay Packers do as a result of their health difficulties, but they look to be bracing for the worse.
Can the Green Bay Packers Recover?
The Green Bay Packers enter Week 15 with a strong desire to win in order to keep their postseason prospects alive.
Losing to the Giants on a walkoff field goal is disappointing, but the Packers don’t have time to cry over lost milk as they prepare to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
For what it’s worth, Green Bay quarterback Jordan Love has promised a comeback in Week 15. The young quarterback voiced confidence in their ability to return to the win column, especially given they have done so previously.
“I believe we have a fantastic team.” Obviously, we’re a squad that has been in this situation before, lost some tough games, and recovered. So I’m confident we’ll be able to rebound next week,” Love said.
The Packers are 6-7 on the season and still in contention for a Wild Card position, currently occupying the final NFC spot. But, in order to make the playoffs, they must win three of their last four games. They can no longer afford to lose.
