After not being with a team since the 2020 regular season, a former Green Bay Packers offensive tackle is unretiring this season. The move comes as the Indianapolis Colts attempt a late-season playoff push after losing rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson earlier in the season.
To keep backup quarterback Gardner Minshew upright this season, the Colts’ offensive line must step up. Braden Smith, the Colts’ offensive tackle, was out with a knee injury in Week 14. The Colts bolstered their offensive line on Monday morning.
A former Green Bay Packers player has signed with the Indianapolis Colts.
According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Colts signed veteran offensive tackle Jared Veldheer to the practice squad.
Jared Veldheer, 36, has played in 121 NFL games, including 114 starts. He last appeared in an NFL game during the 2020 season, when he started a playoff game for the #Colts and then signed with the #Packers before being placed on the COVID list. Back in Indy for another playoff push.
Veldheer was selected by the Oakland Raiders in the third round of the 2010 NFL Draft. He had two stints with the Packers. Veldheer appeared in two games for the Packers during the 2019 season. Veldheer was added to the Packers’ COVID list in 2020. He will leave the NFL in 2021.
Veldheer will join a 7-6 Indianapolis Colts team that currently holds the seventh seed in the AFC if the playoffs begin. We’ll see if Veldheer can crack the Colts’ active roster after not playing since the 2020 season.
