During Week 14, Philadelphia Eagles star receiver AJ Brown allegedly insulted Dallas Cowboys cornerback Stephon Gilmore by referring to him as “old.”

In front of a national audience, the Cowboys defeated division rivals the Eagles 33-13 on Sunday night. The victory was a tasty slice of vengeance after Philadelphia defeated the ‘Boys 28-23 in Week 9. Dallas’ victory yesterday also tied them for first place in the 2022 division.

While the media will heap praise on quarterback Dak Prescott and the offense for scoring 33 points, the offense was given numerous favorable opportunities throughout the game due to an outstanding performance by the Dallas defense.

The Cowboys defense held one of the league’s best offenses to 13 points, quieted their rushing attack, and limited 2022 NFL MVP candidate Jalen Hurts to 197 yards and no touchdowns. The three fumbles Dallas forced on Sunday night, however, were the most important takeaways.

One of those turnovers came early in the third quarter when star cornerback Stephon Gilmore stripped star wide receiver AJ Brown. Gilmore’s victory was one of many over the two-time Pro Bowler after Brown apparently called him old early in the game.

“I just didn’t like how he called me old at the beginning of the game,” Gilmore explained afterward. “It kind of lit a fire under me.” I was furious. The only thing I could do was show him I was still alive, which I believe I did today. This is something I’ve done my entire career. Covering and following the best guy. It’s exciting because you know the ball is on its way to you. I get up for those kinds of occasions.”

Gilmore played man-to-man on Brown all night, limiting him to just under 100 yards on nine catches and a 10.4 yard per catch average. This is nearly four yards less than his season average. This season, Brown ranks second in the NFL in receiving yards (1,258).
