“People are going to have their opinions, I can’t control that.”
On Thursday, independent journalist Tyler Dunne of GoLongTD.com published a lengthy article criticizing Buffalo Bills head coach Doug McDermott, including an anecdote about an insensitive comment in which he used the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks as an example of great teamwork. And it appears that McDermott was dissatisfied with the article.
Doug McDermott responded to the article during a press conference on Friday, calling it “an attack on my character.”
“I know who I am,” McDermott said, per Pro Football Talk. “I know what I try to do. Is there anything wrong with me? No, I’m not perfect, and I say that with humility. I believe we make an effort to do things correctly here. It does not imply that everything we do is correct; people will have their own opinions. I believe we’ve won a lot of games since we’ve been here, and I’m confident of it. I have faith in this football team. People will have their opinions, which I cannot control.”
McDermott also apologized for the insensitive 9/11 remark, stating that he never should have made the remark and that he immediately apologized for it at the time.
