Leicester City have suffered a major setback ahead of the January transfer window. According to reports, Manchester City were planning to sign Boca Juniors left-back Valentin Barco and then loan him to Leicester.

They believe Foxes manager Enzo Maresca can assist in preparing the player for Premier League football, but that plan may now be jeopardized due to another top flight team.

Brighton may now steal a march because they are willing to pay the £8.5 million release clause in the 19-year-old’s contract, according to journalist Augusto Cesar.

That would be a setback for Maresca, especially given his three-decade friendship with Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi. The two Italians have known each other since they were kids in the AC Milan academy.

Barco has a year left on his contract with Boca, and the Argentine club is expected to sell him next month because it is their offseason.
