The Green Bay Packers improved to 6-6 after defeating the Kansas City Chiefs 27-19. Jordan Love threw three touchdown passes without throwing an interception for the second game in a row. It was his fourth game like this this season.
Love threw touchdown passes to rookie tight end Ben Sims and Christian Watson (who caught two). Love’s first touchdown pass, a one-yard toss to Sims, turned out to be historic.
Jordan Love and Ben Sims of the Green Bay Packers make NFL history.
Sims was the Packers’ third rookie tight end signed during the offseason. Of course, Luke Musgrave and Tucker Kraft were both selected in the 2023 NFL Draft. Musgrave, Kraft, Tyler Davis, and Josiah Deguara were the Packers’ four tight ends going into the season.
Davis, on the other hand, tore his ACL in the preseason and will miss the rest of the season. Following his injury, the Packers claimed Sims off waivers from the Minnesota Vikings. Sims had previously signed as an undrafted free agent with the Vikings.
Deguara has struggled with injuries and poor play all season. In fact, he was a healthy scratch in the Chiefs’ win.
Sims has been getting more snaps as a result of Musgrave and Deguara’s injuries (and the latter’s poor play). He also scored his first touchdown against the Chiefs in the first quarter.
This was a historic score. The Packers are the first team in Super Bowl history to have three rookie tight ends with at least one touchdown catch:
Surprisingly, each of the Packers’ three rookie tight ends has one touchdown reception.
Musgrave scored in Green Bay’s 20-3 victory over the Los Angeles Rams. Kraft caught his against the Kansas City Chiefs on Thanksgiving.
