The Minnesota Vikings released one veteran quarterback on Tuesday as the team prepares for its bye week against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 14.
After being traded by the Arizona Cardinals, Joshua Dobbs played well in his first three games with the Vikings. Dobbs’ four interceptions against the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football, on the other hand, were a major factor in the Vikings’ 6-6 loss.
Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell stated on Tuesday that the Vikings were not committed to Dobbs starting against the Raiders. O’Connell intends to start the quarterback who best complements star wide receiver Justin Jefferson, who is set to return against the Raiders.
The Minnesota Vikings let go of a veteran quarterback.
In Week 14, quarterbacks Nick Mullens and Jarrett Hall will return from injury. The Vikings released another veteran quarterback with both players available and Dobbs on the 53-man roster. Sean Mannion was released from the Vikings’ practice squad, according to Aaron Wilson of KPRC.
Mannion was signed by the Vikings in October. Mannion had previously been signed by the Vikings twice before this season.
The Vikings will do everything possible to find a suitable replacement for Kirk Cousins, who suffered a season-ending Achilles injury last month. However, the Vikings’ two-loss streak entering their bye week has reduced their margin for error at the position for the remainder of the season.
