The New York Giants make an unexpected decision at quarterback for their game against the Green Bay Packers.

The New York Giants and Green Bay Packers are preparing for a Monday Night Football matchup that has sparked renewed interest. The Giants are 4-8 this season, and while they haven’t yet been mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, their focus may already be on the 2024 Draft.

The Packers, on the other hand, appear to have completely turned their season around after a 3-6 start. Three straight victories over the Los Angeles Chargers, Detroit Lions, and Kansas City Chiefs have catapulted them back into playoff contention. A Monday Night Football matchup with the Giants suddenly appears to be a game the Packers SHOULD win. At quarterback, they’ll have to deal with an unexpected name.

The Green Bay Packers will face off against the New York Giants’ starting quarterback, Tommy DeVito.

According to The New York Post’s Jared Schwartz:

Brian Daboll didn’t take long to decide on a quarterback.

Tommy DeVito will start the Giants’ “Monday Night Football” game against the Packers, according to Daboll, who spoke for the first time since the bye week.

“Tommy’s done a good job, he’s improved each of the games he’s played,” said Daboll. “Thought he played well the last two games, making good decisions, being accurate with the football, and earning the right to play.”

Giants activate Tyrod Taylor off IR as QB decision looms ahead of Week 13 | amNewYork

“Every decision we make is for that reason [to give them the best chance to win].”

As a result of the injuries to Daniel Jones and Tyrod Taylor this season, DeVito was promoted to QB1. Jones will miss the rest of the season due to an ACL tear, but Taylor was activated from the injured reserve list on Monday. Taylor suffered a rib cage injury in the team’s Week 8 loss to the Jets. He has not appeared since.

So far this season, DeVito has performed admirably. He’s competed in five competitions, starting three of them. As a starter, he has a 2-1 record, a 62.9 completion percentage, 697 yards passing, seven touchdowns, and three interceptions.

Nonetheless, given Tyrod Taylor’s veteran experience, the Giants’ decision to name DeVito as the starting quarterback with nearly a week until their next game is surprising.
