NEWS: Green Bay Packers Sign Super Bowl-Winning DB; Reject Former Team Captain

The Green Bay Packers reportedly claimed a defensive back off waivers on Monday. It appears that the Packers had an opportunity to sign their former team captain but chose not to do so.

This season, the Packers have suffered a number of significant injuries in the secondary. This past weekend, they saw safety Darnell Savage return to the 53-man roster.

Unfortunately, cornerback Jaire Alexander did not play in the Packers’ win over the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night. This season, Alexander has been dealing with a back injury. Eric Stokes has been placed on injured reserve.

The Green Bay Packers have added a defensive back.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Packers claimed cornerback David Long off waivers after the Carolina Panthers released him last week. Adrian Amos, a former Green Bay Packers team captain, was waived by the New York Jets on Friday.

Long was selected by the Rams in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft. With the Rams, he won Super Bowl LVI. Long spent this season with the Las Vegas Raiders before joining the Panthers in November. Long finished his NFL career with 96 total tackles and one interception.

The Packers required more depth at cornerback than at safety. Many Packers fans, however, hoped for a reunion with Amos after the Jets released him.
