Football League World investigates the whereabouts of Leicester City’s six signings prior to their Premier League title win.
Nothing was expected of Leicester City heading into the 2015-16 season. Nobody could have predicted their title win under Claudio Ranieri after narrowly avoiding relegation the year before.
Nonetheless, the club accomplished the impossible by winning the Premier League title, thanks in large part to the signings they made during the summer transfer window.
Football League World investigates the whereabouts of the 2015 arrivals…
Fuchs, Christian
The Austrian full-back joined the Foxes on a free transfer from Schalke, and he made more than 150 appearances for the club over six seasons before joining Charlotte FC in 2021.
Fuchs retired in January 2023 but has since joined the club’s coaching staff as an assistant coach.
2nd. Robert Huth
Stoke City signed the German in a £3 million deal. Huth was an important cog in their successful season, appearing in 35 of their 38 league games and scoring three goals.
Huth retired from football in 2018 and has since returned to the King Power as the club’s loan manager. The three-time Premier League champion has also discovered a new love for marathon running, having completed the Berlin Marathon in September 2023.
Shinji Okazaki 3
The Japanese international was the most expensive addition to the Foxes that summer, costing £7 million from Mainz 05. Okazaki spent four seasons at the club, scoring 19 goals in 137 games across all competitions and becoming a cult hero.
Okazaki left the club and went on to play for Malaga and Huesca in Spain. After joining Sint-Truiden in the summer of 2022, the 37-year-old striker is still playing football. He’s under contract until the summer of 2024.
N’Golo Kanté 4
The midfielder arrived at the club for a fee of £5.6 million, and he was well worth it. Kanté was the crown jewel in Leicester’s title-winning squad, and he’s had an impressive career since leaving the Foxes.
Kanté won the World Cup with France in 2018 and the Champions League three years later with Chelsea. Following the expiration of his contract with the Blues in the summer, he is now playing for Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia.
Yohan Benalouane No. 5
Yohan Benalouane is one of the list’s less impressive signings. After joining the club in a multi-million pound deal from Serie A side Atalanta, he would only make 29 appearances in four years.
The Tunisian joined Nottingham Forest in January 2019 after leaving Italian club Novara in the summer. He has now shifted his focus to Origins Fund, a joint venture with Blaise Matuidi that seeks to invest in consumer technology companies.
Gökhan Inler 6
Gokhan Inler joined from Napoli but only stayed for one season and made five appearances for the Foxes.
He joined Besiktas in the summer of 2016 and is now 39 years old. He re-signed for the Turkish club in the summer.
