The former Southampton full-back was outstanding as his team easily defeated Manchester United at St. James’ Park in the Premier League.
Tino Livramento explained that he knew Newcastle United’s constant pressure would help them beat Manchester United.
The Red Devils were outclassed for the majority of the game at St. James’ Park, with Anthony Gordon’s second-half strike proving decisive as they suffered their sixth Premier League defeat of the season. United will play Chelsea at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.
And it was Livramento’s excellent attacking output that gave Eddie Howe’s side the most joy throughout the game, with his tireless overlapping runs causing constant problems for both Aaron-Wan Bissaka and Marcus Rashford down the right side of the pitch.
Speaking to Newcastle United’s official club channels after the game, the former Southampton defender emphasized the importance of pressing Ten Hag’s side from the start.
”It was massive, we had a lot of chances in the first half and we just kept going, luckily – well, I say fortunately – it was a great team goal to be fair to him (Anthony Gordon) and he took it well,” he said.
”We knew that if we kept playing like we did in the first half, creating lots of chances, it would eventually come. I believe it was up to us to simply keep doing what we were doing, which we did. As I previously stated, we then scored.
”We work a lot on it in training (keeping clean sheets), and as you can see, everyone helps each other out in game. It’s down to how everyone applies themselves to the press, not just the defenders, and as you can see, we were obviously ecstatic to get another clean sheet.”
