Leeds United manager accepts new managerial position in another country.

A former Leeds United manager has accepted a new managerial position in another country.

Danny Schofield, a former Huddersfield Town player, began coaching in 2016 as an under-15s and under-16s coach before being promoted to Professional Development Phase Coach, where he worked alongside Carlos Corberan.

Corberan and Schofield then led United’s under-23s to the National Professional Development League title in 2019, after which Schofield left to become Middlesbrough’s under-23s head coach.

Schofield has since been in charge of both Huddersfield Town and Doncaster Rovers, but the 43-year-old has now taken up a new challenge in Australia as the assistant coach to ex-Whites 21s boss and former Leeds colleague Mark Jackson at Central Coast Mariners.

Schofield has turned down several coaching positions in England and across Europe in order to reunite with Mariners manager Jackson, whom I first met while working for United’s Academy.

Schofield, 43, told the club’s official website: “We’ve always kept in touch since we met in the Leeds academy.” We have very similar ideas about how we want to play football and coach. We both challenge each other in different ways, but being on the same page is the most important thing, and getting the chance to work with him is fantastic.”

“I’ve known Danny for a number of years now; we first met at Leeds when we were working in the academy together, so we’ve had that working relationship for a long time,” Jackson added.

“We both went off on different journeys, but we’ve always kept in touch and more recently spent a lot of time together, watching and discussing football because we have very similar ideas of the game and player development.”

“When the opportunity came up for me to come to the Mariners, I knew I needed a certain type of person with me, for my development as a manager and what I need to support me, and Danny fits that bill.”

“He’s a fantastic coach, he understands the game and we have got alignment in how we see the game being played.”
