Green Bay Packers defensive coordinator Joe Barry has had his defense play exceptionally well in recent weeks. With the team’s top three preferred cornerbacks out due to injuries or trades, the passing defense has been especially impressive. Eric Stokes, a third-year cornerback, is one of those players. He returned briefly this season before being injured again. Barry discussed how frustrating it has been for both the team and Stokes.
The Green Bay Packers On Eric Stokes, Joe Barry
The season isn’t over yet, but it’s getting close. Stokes was injured early in the season and has been on the mend ever since. He returned in a limited capacity in 2023, playing on special teams against the Denver Broncos. He was injured again and had to return to the injured reserve list. Barry discussed the team’s and Stokes’ frustrations.
“It’s been incredibly frustrating for us, but even more so for the kid, because a player wants to be out there.” That’s simply how they’re wired. So I’m hoping it’s not a waste of time. “We still have time.”
The Packers want to see what Stokes can do after a promising rookie season. Stokes is eager to get back on the field for his team. Everything about the situation is frustrating.
We Wish You a Complete Recover
Stokes is a promising young cornerback, and I can’t even imagine what he’s going through. He is wired to play, and losing almost two seasons must be frustrating. Still, the team and Stokes should be patient and hope for a full recovery. In the long run, the Packers’ secondary could be frightening. Jaire Alexander remains among the best at his position. If Stokes can return healthy, Carrington Valentine has shown promise as a cornerback, giving the Packers some depth at the position.
This week’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs is crucial for the Packers. Despite the struggles of the wide receivers, any offense led by Patrick Mahomes is dangerous. The defense will be tested, and we will see if they are up to the task.
