The Green Bay Packers improved to 5-6 after a 29-22 victory over the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving. Despite the fact that the Packers appeared to be the superior team from start to finish, many were taken aback by their dominance on both sides of the ball. Of course, this was due to Green Bay having 17 players on its injury report heading into the game.
Indeed, the Packers won convincingly despite the absence of offensive starters Aaron Jones and Luke Musgrave, as well as dynamic rookie wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks. In addition, several starters on defense, including Jaire Alexander and De’Vondre Campbell, were absent.
In addition, running back AJ Dillon was listed as questionable for the game due to a groin injury. Emanuel Wilson, Green Bay’s third-string running back, was also placed on injured reserve with a separated shoulder.
For Thanksgiving, the Green Bay Packers signed James Robinson and promoted Bo Melton.
The Packers signed James Robinson, who had spent three weeks on the Packers’ practice squad earlier in the season, in an effort to ensure that they could field a playable offense. Prior to the game against Detroit, he was signed to their practice squad once more. Running back Patrick Taylor, who was released by the Green Bay Packers earlier this season, was signed to their 53-man roster off the practice squad of the New England Patriots.
The Packers also added depth at wide receiver by promoting Bo Melton from the practice squad. He was signed by Green Bay in December of last season after being drafted in the seventh round by the Seattle Seahawks in 2022. He was signed to their practice squad after failing to make the team out of training camp this year.
Melton saw action on two offensive plays and six special teams plays against the Lions.
Bo Melton and James Robinson have been re-signed to the Green Bay Packers’ practice squad.
The Packers re-signed both Melton and Robinson, according to Tom Silverstein. On Wednesday, he saw them practicing with the rest of the team:
Wicks was able to return to practice after passing the concussion protocol. It’s unlikely that he’ll be promoted again this season. Robinson, on the other hand, could be promoted due to injury concerns at the Packers’ running back position.
It should be noted that AJ Dillon is not practicing in order to avoid further injuring his groin. He did not injure it further in the Thanksgiving game and will most likely play against the Chiefs on Sunday night.
Aaron Jones is still out with a sprained MCL.
The Packers chose to start fullback Henry Pearson against the Lions. On Thanksgiving, he took two offensive snaps and 11 special teams snaps.
