The Philadelphia Eagles and the San Francisco 49ers meet in the NFC Championship Game this week, but despite the fact that the Eagles won last year’s game by a score of 31-7, the Eagles have a better record, and this week’s game will be played in Philly, the Niners are still favored. However, it appears that the Eagles are relishing the role of underdog.
The Eagles are 2.5-point underdogs at home in this game. While Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni isn’t concerned about the spread, he did state that this team is adept at playing the underdog.
“Not going to get wrapped into what anybody else thinks of us, whether that’s another team, whether that’s whoever makes the spreads, or anything like that,” Sirianni told the media during his press conference. “All we care about is going to work for ourselves.” I don’t think anyone expected us to be this good last year or the year before. I believe it is acceptable to be the underdog.”
“I said on the radio the other day, before I ever stepped foot in the city all I knew about this city was Rocky versus Apollo Creed and the city plays the underdog well.”
Of course, with Brock Purdy healthy, San Francisco will be at full strength this year. We’ll have to wait and see if it makes a difference.
