The Green Bay Packers practiced on Monday, and cornerback Eric Stokes was among those who showed up. He only saw game action on special teams this season before suffering a hamstring injury and being placed on injured reserve. Stokes made his NFL debut on October 22nd against the Denver Broncos.
With Stokes back at practice, they have 21 days to activate him from injured reserve and re-add him to the 53-man roster, and we’ll see what happens in the meantime. In 2022, he dealt with a season-ending injury.
Eric Stokes is 24 years old and needs to see game action in Green Bay. Throughout his NFL career, he has 81 total tackles and one interception at the age of 24. Stokes was selected 29th overall (first round) in the 2021 NFL Draft out of the University of Georgia. He has not been able to stay on the field in his NFL career thus far, but he hopes to see some game action toward the end of the season.
The Green Bay Packers’ cornerback situation has been tumultuous all season, and having Eric Stokes back could be crucial.
The Packers’ cornerback position has been anything but easy for this group throughout the season. Jaire Alexander, the Packers’ top cornerback, has been battling injuries and has missed the last three games. They sent Rasul Douglas to the Buffalo Bills before the NFL Trade Deadline in exchange for draft picks.
The Green Bay Packers’ starting cornerbacks over the last few weeks have been Kelsean Nixon and Corey Ballentine. Green Bay rookie Carrington Valentine has also played well in the secondary over the last few weeks, and he has been a pleasant surprise for them this season.
It would be a shame if Stokes did not get some starter reps at cornerback for Green Bay if he is activated from injured reserve at some point. Stokes could return against the Kansas City Chiefs if he has a full week of practice. If not, Stokes could potentially return to game action on Monday, December 11 against the New York Giants (4-8).
