Arryn Siposs, the former Philadelphia Eagles superboot, has left the NFL after accepting a coaching position with AFL club Hawthorn.

Siposs, who joined the Eagles after playing 28 games for St Kilda, was let go at the end of August after making a game-changing mistake in February’s Super Bowl loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

A poor Siposs punt in the fourth quarter was returned to within touching distance of the goal line by Kadarius Toney, allowing the Chiefs to score the game-winning touchdown on their way to a three-point victory.

Siposs had appeared in 32 games for the Eagles before being waived before the start of the season. He was later added to the practice squad before being released in September.

He unsuccessfully tried out for a position with the Arizona Cardinals before returning to Melbourne with his wife and daughter in the hopes of working in the AFL.

The 31-year-old was set to coach VFL club Williamstown before joining the Hawks as a development coach under head coach Sam Mitchell and as part of a restructured coaching unit.

“Arryn joins our club with great experience and perspective following exposure across two high performance environments, in the AFL and NFL, which we believe will benefit our program immensely,” Hawthorn General Manager of Football Rob McCartney said.

“We see him as a great fit for our talented young list and as someone who can help develop players both on and off the field.”

“We believe our entire coaching team is well balanced to continue developing our young list and giving them every opportunity to succeed.”

Following the return of Brett Ratten in September after he chose to leave his role at North Melbourne, Hawthorn has finalised its coaching panel for 2024, with Adrian Hickmott and David Mackay securing new roles ahead of the start of pre-season.
