Kasey McAteer is having a breakout season for the Foxes.
Kasey McAteer of Leicester City is attracting Premier League interest ahead of the January transfer window.
That’s according to a report from Football Transfers, who say that Everton and Crystal Palace are both interested in the 22-year-old.
How has McAteer’s career gone so far?
McAteer came through the Leicester youth system and has made a handful of senior appearances for the Foxes in the last two seasons.
During that time, he also had loan spells in League Two with Forest Green Rovers and AFC Wimbledon.
This season, however, the winger has emerged as a key player for Leicester in the Championship as they seek an immediate return to the Premier League.
Despite being hampered by injury recently, McAteer has scored five goals in 12 appearances in all competitions for Enzo Maresca’s side since the start of the current season.
Now, it appears that the 22-year-old’s form is beginning to pique the interest of top-flight English football clubs ahead of the January transfer window.
McAteer could leave Leicester City in January.
According to the most recent Football Transfers update, both Everton and Crystal Palace are keeping an eye on McAteer as they consider a January move for the 22-year-old.
Both clubs are thought to be eager to bolster their wide options when the market reopens, and McAteer has been identified as a possible replacement.
There is also speculation that if McAteer does decide to leave, he will be reluctant to join a club facing relegation to the Championship because he wants to be assured of playing in the Premier League.
Following their recent ten-point deduction, Everton are currently 19th in the Premier League, five points from safety.
Palace, for their part, are 13th in the Premier League table, ten points clear of the bottom three.
According to the report, McAteer is enjoying competing for promotion with Leicester this season, implying that a move in the summer could also be a possibility.
As things stand, the winger’s current contract with Leicester expires in a year and a half, securing his future at The King Power Stadium until the end of the 2024/25 season.
Leicester are also said to be hopeful of extending his contract beyond that point, despite the interest from elsewhere.
McAteer would be a good signing for Everton or Crystal Palace.
Signing McAteer appears to be a good piece of business for one of these teams.
To be sure, the winger is still in his early stages of his career and lacks senior experience, so stepping up to the Premier League will be a big ask.
Nonetheless, his performances for Leicester this season have demonstrated how good he can be at an already high level, implying that he could be a valuable asset as he progresses in his career.
With that in mind, it would make sense for one of these teams to act quickly and secure his services in January or next summer before another team does.
