West Ham United are unlikely to pursue Porto defender Zaidu Sanusi until next summer, despite London Stadium director Tim Steidten’s admiration for the Nigeria international.

According to TEAMtalk, David Moyes is ‘actively pushing’ for West Ham United to sign a new left-back in the new year. However, when we say “New Year,” we most likely mean June rather than January.

In response to TEAMtalk’s initial claims, the Portuguese publication O Jogo conducted their own investigation. And West Ham, they claim, will increase their pursuit of Zaidu Sanusi once the season is over. According to reports, Aaron Cresswell, the man Sanusi would most likely replace in the English capital, is set to stay with the Hammers for another six months.

Cresswell will turn 34 in December. His contract will also expire in the summer. West Ham’s long-standing interest in Sanusi suggests that preparations for the Scouser’s departure are already underway.

TEAMtalk also reports that West Ham director Tim Steidten is a big fan of Sanusi. Steidten was instrumental in bringing Mohammed Kudus and Edson Alvarez from Ajax, flying out to the Netherlands to meet with both players. Don’t be surprised to see Steidten board a flight to Portugal in the near future.

Sanusi, 26, has had an injury-plagued start to the season, but his reputation precedes him. Since joining Porto in 2020, the former Santa Clara starlet has been quietly excellent. His dramatic late winner against bitter rivals Benfica secured the Dragons’ Primeira Liga title a year and a half ago.

‘He’s the fastest player I’ve ever seen.’

“Zaidu Sanusi is the most amusing. Toni Martinez, Porto’s former West Ham youngster, praises Sanusi’s presence both on and off the field.

“He moves too quickly. He’s probably the fastest player I’ve ever seen!”

Sanusi’s Porto contract includes a £43 million release clause. West Ham had a bid rejected on the final day of the 2021 transfer window, according to Record.
