Athletic Bilbao are upbeat. Nico Williams, who has been linked with a move to Aston Villa, will sign a new contract.
Villa, Liverpool, Barcelona, and Real Madrid are said to be interested in signing Williams. According to the Spanish newspaper AS, those clubs “tempted” Williams in “recent months,” while Real Madrid remains “attentive.”
Sport adds that Villa are willing to pay a reasonable fee in January to secure the winger. Williams’ contract expires at the end of the season, and Bilbao have been pressuring him to commit to the club for the long term.

AS adds that “open negotiations” are ongoing between the two parties. “There’s a lot of noise around Nico, who is young and is a starter in the national team,” Bilbao sporting director Mikel Gonzalez told DAZN.
“We see him and his surroundings at Athletic being very happy and focused. Everything usually works out if both the club and the player want him to stay.”
Williams has seven assists and one goal in 11 La Liga games for Bilbao this season.
