Aston Villa’s chances of signing Jeremie Frimpong in the coming months have been boosted by reports that he is set to leave his current club.
Last month, Villa were said to be interested in the right-back. However, it was claimed that Bayer Leverkusen were eager to tie him down to a new long-term contract in order to deter interest.
However, it appears that they have conceded defeat in their attempt to keep their player in the new year. According to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, the German club ‘expects’ the player to leave in 2024, and the full-back is eager to move on as well.

The 22-year-old reportedly has a €40 million release clause in his contract that will go into effect this summer. It is not stated whether a comparable fee will be accepted if an offer is made in January.
Frimpong has made an impression for Leverkusen since joining the club in 2021. Last season, he scored nine goals and provided 11 assists from both right wing-back and right-back positions.
That attacking ability has continued this season, with the Dutch international scoring six goals and providing seven assists in 17 appearances. He scored in his most recent appearance, a 3-0 Bundesliga win over Werder Bremen on Saturday, as Leverkusen maintained their lead at the top of the table.
Villa could have an advantage in any race that occurs, having completed a deal with Leverkusen in the summer for Moussa Diaby. Diaby has impressed in his first few months with the club and previously played alongside Frimpong.
