Alan Hutton, a former Aston Villa full-back, has joined us as an exclusive columnist. Each week, he’ll share his thoughts on the hot topics at Villa Park…

Alan Hutton admits that Aston Villa fans’ expectations have always been high, but it’s “amazing” to see the club finally meet them.

On Sunday (November 26), Aston Villa travels to Tottenham Hotspur. If Unai Emery’s team wins, they will move up to at least fourth place.

While Hutton believes the trip to Spurs will be a big test for Emery and his squad, he’s happy for the fans who went through such a difficult time when he was at the club when they were relegated to the Championship.

“I think there’s a sense among the fans that the team will do well,” Hutton told Villa News.

“They haven’t quite reached the heights in previous years – trust me, I’ve been there.”

“But they’ve felt like something is coming together, and with the players they brought in over the summer, they’d probably expected it.”

“Fans will run with it, and they’ll know it’ll be tough [against Tottenham], but it’s incredible times at Villa Park right now.”

“They earned it by persevering through thick and thin in the Championship.” It’s been fantastic.”

Spurs have lost their last two Premier League games, with Ange Postecoglou’s side currently suffering from a number of first-team injuries and suspensions.

Villa, on the other hand, will have a nearly fully fit squad following the international break.

Last season, the Villans defeated Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on New Year’s Day, thanks to goals from Emi Buendia and Douglas Luiz.
