It was a fantastic 4-1 win over Chelsea at St. James’ Park yesterday, and while we were able to field a strong side, our bench was not strong with all of the injuries we have at the moment.
After a competitive and entertaining first half in which Isak scored on a fantastic through ball from 17-year-old Lewis Miley, the score was 1-1 at halftime when Raheem Sterling equalized with a great free kick.
Newcastle took control of the game in the second half, scoring two goals in 90 seconds thanks to a Lascelles header and Joelinton scoring after center-back Thiago Silva gave the ball away with a terrible back pass.
After 73 minutes, Reece James was sent off, and after 83 minutes, Anthony Gordon showed his English class with a beautiful shot as he moved in from the left wing.
Gordon personifies Newcastle’s unwavering effort and determination.
So it was truly a team effort from every single player, and Eddie Howe had brilliantly prepared the side for the game, as he usually does when he has two weeks to work with the players and is not on International duty.
However, it appears that a couple of the owners were not pleased with the atmosphere at the game, as Mehrdad Ghodoussi and Jamie Reuben stated on Twitter.
We’ve seen some negative reactions to these tweets from supporters, but we’re not going to get into that or criticize the two owners.
They want the atmosphere at these games to be as intense as possible, and we see nothing wrong with that.
