Aaron Rodgers’ return to Lambeau Field for a game between the New York Jets and the Green Bay Packers could happen in 2024.
Aaron Rodgers of the New York Jets hoped for a chance at vengeance against the Green Bay Packers. While his 2023 season did not go as planned, Rodgers is set to have another chance at redemption as early as 2024.
Rodgers, who is still attempting to recover from a torn Achilles he suffered in Week 1, wants to become the first player in NFL history to return from an Achilles tear in the same season he suffered it. While New York may leave the decision to return to the four-time NFL MVP, there is a compelling reason for Rodgers to play it safe and return next season.
Aaron Rodgers has 59,055 passing yards, 475 passing touchdowns, a 65.3 percent completion rate, a 103.6 QB rating, and a 7.7 yards per attempt average in his career.
Green Bay Packers draft picks in 2024
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, based on the current NFL schedule, Rodgers is on track to face the Packers in Lambeau Field next season. It would be a highly sought-after game for a primetime slot, with ESPN (Monday Night Football), NBC (Sunday Night Football), Amazon (Thursday Night Football), FOX, and CBS all vying for it.
The Jets’ 2024 schedule calls for a road game against an NFC North team that finishes in the same division as New York. New York and Green Bay are both third in their respective divisions heading into today’s NFL games.
It would make the plot eerily similar to what happened with Brett Favre. Favre returned to Lambeau Field as a visitor in 2009, a year after being traded to New York and spending a season with the Jets. While that occurred while wearing a Vikings uniform, the rematch came one year after Green Bay parted ways with its future Hall of Fame quarterback.
If Rodgers returns in 2023, he’ll be a 39-year-old quarterback behind one of the NFL’s worst offensive lines. With Rodgers’ movement in the pocket limited following Achilles surgery, he would be at a much higher risk of suffering a severe injury.
A setback or re-injury could jeopardize Rodgers’ availability in 2024, robbing him of the opportunity to play in a so-called revenge game against the Packers. Furthermore, facing his former team would provide Rodgers with the opportunity to become only the fifth quarterback in NFL history (Favre, Tom Brady, Drew Brees, and Peyton Manning) to defeat all 32 teams.
