The Detroit Lions have a short week ahead of them, as they face the Green Bay Packers on Thanksgiving. Jonah Jackson did not practice for the second day in a row, making it unlikely that he will play on Thursday. With only three days to prepare, the Lions are taking a straightforward approach to game planning. Because time is of the essence, this is not the week to introduce a slew of new elements.
Instead, Campbell and his staff are going back to basics and expanding on their core concepts in preparation for a rematch of their Week 4 game at Lambeau Field.
“I think ultimately, you want to do a lot of things that you’ve hung your hat on since training camp, a lot of things that you’ve done throughout the season and then you’ll find another way to formationally switch it up,” he said. “Perhaps try a different motion on it.” But a lot of the very, very unique wrinkle plays are difficult to fit in. Because those require timing, as well as a certain level of physicality.
Especially in the run game, play-pass, or run action. You must exercise caution in this regard. It doesn’t mean we won’t have such things, but the majority of it has to be part of your core and what you feel you can function at a high level.”
Campbell praised his team’s ability to learn and adapt while remaining true to their identity. With so little time to prepare, much of what happens on Sunday will be what the Lions have been working on since the beginning of the season.
“These guys aren’t going to blink an eye at it.” They must have run these things thousands of times. “And then it’s just a mental matter of, this is how we’re going to formulate it this week,” Campbell said. “This is where you’ll be, but it’ll be the same plays that we’ve been running.” I’d say that’s what most teams do traditionally, and it comes down to who does it better.” Week 12 injury report for the Lions Jonah Jackson (NP) – Wrist Illness (FP) — Isaiah Buggs Hand (FP) Ifeatu Melifonwu Toe — Frank Ragnow (FP)
