Eddie Howe now believes the Newcastle 26-year-old has a chance to play against Chelsea.

Newcastle United appear to be concerned about Sean Longstaff’s fitness ahead of Saturday’s game against Chelsea.

The Magpies return to action after the international break, when Mauricio Pochettino’s side travels to Tyneside to face a Newcastle team that has been plagued by injuries.

Sean Longstaff injured his ankle in the defeat to Bournemouth, giving Eddie Howe’s side a new problem.

Despite playing the full 90 minutes at the Vitality Stadium, it was reported after the game that he was now a doubt for the match against Chelsea on November 25th.

There have since been reports that Newcastle are hoping to have Longstaff back in time to face PSG on Tuesday, but a new update from Howe suggests that the 26-year-old may have an outside chance of playing against Chelsea.

Howe spoke to the media ahead of Newcastle’s game against Chelsea, providing an update on Longstaff’s condition.

“We will check on Sean [Longstaff] before tomorrow,” he said in response.

It would be fantastic if the Newcastle midfielder could play against Chelsea.
While Howe has not confirmed Longstaff’s availability to face Chelsea, he has also not ruled him out. As is customary with Howe, you never get the whole story!

Longstaff’s availability for Saturday’s game at St James’ Park would be a huge boost for Newcastle, as he is a vital cog in the Newcastle machine.

He’s had a huge impact this season, with our form improving noticeably after he returned to the starting XI. He’s still getting better, which speaks to his work ethic and Howe’s coaching.

But the Newcastle manager will be cautious with Longstaff because he wants him to start against PSG on Tuesday night.

That may cause Howe to avoid taking chances with the local lad. If that is the case, Lewis Miley could make his second Premier League start in a row, which would be a huge achievement for the teenager.
