On Sunday afternoon, the Green Bay Packers defeated the Los Angeles Chargers 23-20 to improve to 4-6 on the season. Jordan Love and the offense play their best and most complete game since beating the Chicago Bears 38-20 in Week One. The difference in this game and performance was that Green Bay’s rookie pass catchers’ talent and explosiveness were on full display.

Dontayvion Wicks, drafted by the Packers in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, had three receptions for 91 yards, which led the team. Both rookie tight ends, Luke Musgrave and Tucker Kraft, had six receptions and 60 yards on the day.

But it was Jayden Reed, who Green Bay selected in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft, who earned his second-consecutive NFL Rookie of the Week nod after a historic performance that put him in rare company among Packers’ great wide receivers.

On Sunday, Reed scored his first rushing touchdown while gaining 46 yards rushing and 46 yards receiving. Reed became only the fourth rookie wide receiver in franchise history to have at least 45 yards rushing and 45 yards receiving in a game, according to the Packers’ website. Don Hutson, James Lofton, and Christian Watson are the others.

Jayden Reed is quickly emerging as the Green Bay Packers’ top wide receiver.

Reed has 32 receptions for 463 yards and four touchdowns this season. In addition, when targeted, Love has a passer rating of 110.2. Reed has five rushing attempts for 65 yards and a touchdown in addition to his receiving production.

Through 10 games, Reed is on pace for 54 receptions, 787 yards, and seven touchdowns through the air this season. As a rusher, his current targets are nine carries for 110 yards and a touchdown.

If Reed continues on this path, he will have the best rookie season by a Packers wide receiver since Sterling Sharpe in 1988. Sharpe set a franchise rookie record with 55 receptions for 791 yards and a touchdown that season.

James Jones came closest to those numbers as a rookie wide receiver for the Packers in 2007, with 47 receptions, 676 yards, and two touchdowns.
