The Green Bay Packers have placed two young stars on injured reserve ahead of their Thanksgiving game against the Detroit Lions.

The Green Bay Packers will face the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving without one of their most exciting offensive players. Despite Matt LaFleur’s earlier statement that he was unsure if rookie tight end Luke Musgrave would be placed on injured reserve, the team decided to do so today. Rookie running back Emanuel Wilson was also placed on injured reserve.

The Packers signed wide receiver Bo Melton and running back James Robinson from their practice squad to fill spots on the 53-man roster. Melton has been with the Packers since last season, while Robinson was signed just this week. Earlier this season, he spent three weeks on the Packers’ practice squad.

In addition, fullback (yes, fullback) Henry Pearson and safety Benny Sapp III have been promoted from the practice squad to the active roster for Thanksgiving. Pearson is the first to be promoted, and Sapp is the second.

The injury to Green Bay Packers tight end Luke Musgrave was severe.

Musgrave’s abdominal injury was actually a lacerated kidney, according to the Packers. He was hurt in the third quarter of Green Bay’s win over the Chargers, but he played on and didn’t tell trainers about it until after the game.

Players who have previously suffered lacerated kidneys have missed anywhere from three to eight games. It all depends on how severely the kidney was injured. Musgrave’s placement on injured reserve, on the other hand, ensures that he will miss at least four games.

The Packers still have seven games left, and Musgrave is only 23 yards away from breaking the franchise record for receiving yards by a rookie tight end.

Undrafted free agent rookie running back Emanuel Wilson wowed Packers fans by leading the NFL in rushing yards during the preseason. Unfortunately, he has not had much time on the field this season. Wilson was severely injured against the Chargers during some of his most extended playing time this season.

Packers Lose Aaron Jones, Emanuel Wilson to Serious Injuries

Wilson’s shoulder had separated so badly that trainers couldn’t pop it back into place on the field. While the results of his MRI have not been released, his placement on injured reserve suggests that he has ligament damage.

Due to Wilson’s injury, the Packers called former running back Patrick Taylor, plucked him from the practice squad of the New England Patriots, and added him to their 53-man roster.

AJ Dillon, Taylor, and Robinson will all play in the Packers’ Thanksgiving game against the Lions. Aaron Jones is listed on the team’s injury report as out, but he was not placed on injured reserve. He is evaluated on a weekly basis.

Let’s hope the Packers can get more than their previous game’s 27 rushing yards against the Lions.
