The Green Bay Packers are currently 4-6 on the season. Green Bay is eighth in the NFC, but if the season ended today, they would have the ninth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. The Packers will have some needs this offseason, as they always do.
However, with quarterback Jordan Love’s performance over the last two weeks, the call for another quarterback to be drafted in the 2024 NFL Draft is fading by the week. It will be interesting to see how he performs in the final seven games of the 2023 NFL regular season, which includes Thursday’s Thanksgiving game against the Detroit Lions (8-2).
With the possibility of failing to draft a quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft, what other options does general manager Brian Gutekunst have?
The Green Bay Packers could make their offense even more dangerous by drafting Georgia tight end Brock Bowers.
Green Bay’s offense is improving thanks to its young wide receivers and tight ends. The top two tight ends on the roster are Luke Musgrave and Tucker Kraft. So far this season, Luke Musgrave has caught 33 passes for 341 yards and one touchdown. He has a 10.3 yard per reception average.
Musgrave was a second-round pick out of Oregon State in the 2023 NFL Draft. What if Jordan Love had another top tight end in Georgia’s Brock Bowers? In nine games this season, he has caught 51 passes for 661 yards receiving and six touchdowns. Bowers is averaging 13.0 yards per reception for the Green Bay Packers, adding another dimension to their offense.
Select an offensive lineman in the draft.
The Green Bay Packers’ best bet in the 2024 NFL Draft would be to select an offensive lineman. Green Bay has a weakness in this area. Would Joe Alt from Notre Dame and Olu Fashanu from Penn State be gone by the time they make their selection?
Perhaps, but the offensive line draft is extremely deep this year. Amarius Mims of Georgia and JC Latham of Alabama could be on the board, and Taliese Fuaga of Oregon State is quickly climbing draft boards in the 2024 NFL Draft. Because of the uncertainty surrounding David Bakhtiari’s future, general manager Brian Gutekunst must fill this position at some point.
Cornerback
With Rasul Douglas traded and Jaire Alexander injured this season, would the Green Bay Packers draft defense in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft again? That appears to be a recurring theme for general manager Brian Gutekunst. Alabama’s Kool-Aid McKinstry is the top cornerback on the board this season.
Nate Wiggins of Clemson is another cornerback prospect who could be selected in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Rookies Corey Valentine and Keean Nixon have performed admirably this season, but the team requires more depth and quality starters at the position.
