At 4-6, the Green Bay Packers are still in contention for an NFC Playoff spot. Making the NFL Playoffs in Jordan Love’s first year as the starter would imply that the team was able to right the ship after losing four straight games earlier this season.

To be 4-6, the team has obviously done a lot of things wrong. While Love and the offense have struggled, and their mistakes have been highlighted by both local and national media, the defense has also been questioned.

Of course, defensive coordinator Joe Barry is the scapegoat for the defense’s woes. His scheme is heavily criticized by fans on a weekly basis, and perhaps rightly so. Green Bay would be 3-7 if the Los Angeles Chargers wide receivers hadn’t dropped two easy touchdown passes on Sunday.

The Pittsburgh Steelers fired offensive coordinator Matt Canada early Tuesday morning, according to reports. Many fans will recall that Canada and the Steelers defeated the Packers 23-19 just a few weeks ago. His firing prompted fans to highlight Barry’s low fan base standing on social media.

Following their 13-10 loss to the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, the Steelers decided to part ways with Canada. Pittsburgh managed only 278 yards on offense in that game, including a dismal 106 passing yards.

Of course, Barry’s defense allowed the Steelers 324 yards, with the majority of those yards coming on the ground. In fact, the Packers’ entertaining defense has allowed more 200-yard rushing games this season than any other team.

As one might expect, Packers fans were quick to point out how Barry was immediately outcoached by Canada following the latter’s firing:

Matt LaFleur went out of his way to praise Barry’s defensive schemes after the Chargers game on Sunday. Despite the win, one hopes that the obvious issues with the defense are addressed soon, whether during the season or in the offseason, and that the heart of those issues is coaching.
