The Green Bay Packers upset the Los Angeles Chargers 23-20 on Sunday afternoon in one of their greatest games of the season. While the defense was helped by dropped passes by Chargers wide receivers, the offense looked better than it had in any game since Week One.

Unfortunately for the Packers, the victory came at a steep price. Several players sustained injuries that will keep them out for several weeks. This is far from ideal given the team’s short turnaround and upcoming game against the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving (tomorrow)

Green Bay has not practiced this week in an effort to get fit, but has released an injury report that includes estimations on whether or not each of their injured players would have participated. And the list is lengthy.

One-third of the Green Bay Packers’ starters are injured.

What’s so disheartening is that the Packers’ offense appeared to hit a new plateau on Sunday and was primed to make another leap against the Lions. However, the majority of their starters are listed as injured and may not play:

  • Luke Musgrave (lacerated kidney)
  • Aaron Jones (MCL sprain)
  • Dontayvion Wicks (concussion)
  • Josiah Deguara (hip)
  • Emanuel Wilson (separated shoulder)

While many of the Packers’ injured players may be able to participate, the following offensive players will almost sure miss the Thanksgiving game in Detroit.Offense Injuries for the Green Bay Packers

Musgrave’s injury was severe enough that he was hospitalized, as previously reported. Head coach Matt LaFleur would not commit to placing him on injured reserve, but he would not rule it out.

Jones’ injuries appeared to be far worse than it was at the time. He is evaluated on a weekly basis.

Wicks will almost definitely fail the concussion protocol four days after receiving the injury.

Deguara didn’t play much against Los Angeles, and the Packers could start Tucker Kraft and Ben Sims at tight end against Detroit.

To compensate for the loss of Jones and Wilson, the Packers signed Patrick Taylor and James Robinson.

Other offensive players on the injury report who are expected to play include:

  • AJ Dillon (groin)
  • Jayden Reed (chest)
  • Christian Watson (shoulder)
  • Elgton Jenkins (knee)

The Packers’ defense has been plagued by injuries all season. Having said that, there is just one defensive player on the injury report who would not have been able to train this week: De’Vondre Campbell. While losing Campbell for this game would be devastating, especially for the run defense, he is the only one with a DNP.

Darnell Savage, who has been designated to return from injured reserve, is one component of the Packers’ injury report that is actually good news for the team. This does not guarantee that he will play on Thanksgiving, but it is possible. Green Bay has 21 days to make him a member of the 53-man roster.

All of the other defensive players on the injury report would have practiced in some capacity, which is quite encouraging given how battered the offense is. The Packers’ defense will need to come up big time tomorrow.
