After Hull City chairman announces agreement, Jaden Philogene’s Aston Villa transfer clause is explained.

The Hull City vice-chairman discloses specifics of the Jaden Philogene transfer in the latest Aston Villa news from BirminghamLive.

Following Jaden Philogene’s move to Hull City, there has been a lot of debate about Aston Villa’s buy-back clause.

During the summer transfer window, the 21-year-old was sold to the Championship club for £5 million. The agreement included a £15 million buy-back clause.

Tan Kesler, the Tigers’ vice-chairman, has verified the details of that arrangement. According to our friends at Hull Live, if the two clubs end up in the same division, Villa will have first refusal to buy him back.

“If we get promoted to the Premier League, Villa have the option to buy him back for £15 million,” Kesler stated in September. “Having said that, if we receive another offer worth more than £15 million, we would have the right to discuss it; we are not obligated to sell to Villa, but they would have first choice, and that is part of our agreement.”

“That’s how Keinan Davis was going to come, and in the future, you might see more players coming in – from Roma, more from Villa, we’re in the process of establishing more relationships – like this to help us get to promotion level.”

Kesler continued, “It’s fairly straightforward. The buy-back clause can be regarded badly or extremely positively. If the player is yours and you believe you don’t have the right to control it all the way through (by the contract), you can look at creating a win-win situation and sharing certain rights so that you can get it done and beat the competition.

“What we did, in my opinion, and for our fans to (understand) our future decisions.” We’re not just buying players and then having their prior clubs buy them back from us; it’s a win-win situation. A monetary value has been assigned to a specific performance, which is a good thing. Maybe he’ll never get there, or maybe he’ll get around it, but at least for the market, for the industry, we know what he’ll be worth if he leaves our club.

“Do we consider it if someone comes in and offers less than his buy-back value?” Should we think about it? Most likely not. This is a good thing. And having another large club on your side and being able to contribute to Jaden’s development plan is beneficial.”
