£31m Newcastle United star withdrawn from international duty at Everton – could start against Chelsea
Tino Livramento: The Newcastle United full-back is hoping to make his Premier League debut this weekend.
Tino Livramento is set to return to Newcastle United after serving with England’s Under-21 team.
The 21-year-old started the 3-0 Under-21s European Championship qualifier against Serbia on Saturday and the 3-0 win over Northern Ireland at Everton’s Goodison Park on Tuesday evening before being withdrawn at half-time.
Fortunately, there were no signs of injury for the right-back, who could make his full Premier League debut for Newcastle against his former club Chelsea this Saturday (3pm kick-off).
While Livramento has yet to make his first league start for The Magpies, he has excelled in cup competitions. The 20-year-old has been named Newcastle’s man of the match in all three of his Carabao Cup and Champions League starts.
The right-back joined United from Southampton in the summer for £31 million, and he returned to the England Under-21s squad during the previous international break. It was Livramento’s first international appearance in 18 months, following an ACL injury in 2022.
With Dan Burn and Matt Targett both injured, and Lewis Hall ineligible to play against his parent club, Livramento could be given a chance at right-back or left-back this weekend, with Kieran Trippier on the opposite side.
In recent weeks, the youngster has been used in both positions for Newcastle, with head coach Eddie Howe saying after the Borussia Dortmund match: “I thought Tino did well in both [right-back and left-back] positions.”
“I believe Kieran [Trippier] is a vital player for us.” His ability to pass for us on his right foot is a valuable asset.”
