Bryan Bulaga, a former Green Bay Packers offensive tackle, has announced his retirement from the NFL. The former first-round draft pick technically played his final games with the Los Angeles Chargers, but he was a Packer for ten seasons before leaving for the West Coast.

On Thursday, General Manager Brian Gutekunst issued a statement announcing the news.

“We want to send our congratulations to Bryan on a wonderful career and thank him for his contributions to the Packers,” he said. “He was not only one of the best right tackles in the National Football League, but he was also a fantastic teammate who contributed significantly to the success of many teams.” We wish him, his wife, Abbie, and their family the very best in the coming years.”

Bulaga is an Illinois native who was drafted by the Packers in the first round (23rd overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft out of the University of Iowa. He started 111 of Green Bay’s 115 regular-season games and all 13 postseason games. From 2010 to 2019, he appeared in 115 games, the most by a Packers offensive lineman during that time period.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Bryan Bulaga, a former Green Bay Packers tackle, announced his retirement on Thursday. From 2010 to 2019, he was a member of the Green Bay Packers.

“We want to send our congratulations to Bryan on a wonderful career and thank him for his contributions to the Packers,” said General Manager Brian Gutekunst. “He was not only one of the premier right tackles in the National Football League, he was also a tremendous teammate who was key to the success of many teams.”

The Packers drafted Bulaga in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft out of the University of Iowa. According to the team, his 115 games played from 2010 to 2019 were the most by a Packers offensive lineman during that time period.

He was the NFL’s first rookie to start at right tackle in a Super Bowl victory. When the Packers won the Super Bowl in 2011, he was 21 years old. He helped the Packers win six division titles, eight playoff appearances, and four NFC Championships.

Bulaga also assisted in the protection of Aaron Rodgers during the 2011 and 2014 seasons, when he was named the NFL’s Most Valuable Player.

He spent two seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers after leaving the Packers in 2019. He last appeared in a game in 2021.
