“Unai is very important” – Player on joining Aston Villa and the club being’serious’

Pau Torres of Spain has told Marca that he is delighted to have joined Aston Villa during the summer transfer window.

The defender spent over two decades at Villarreal before joining the Villans, where he reunited with Unai Emery at Villa Park.

He has a goal and an assist from 16 appearances, including 11 league starts this season. Torres’ form for Aston Villa appears to have contributed to his first appearance for Spain this year, against Cyprus.

After expressing his delight at playing for La Roja, the newspaper questioned the 26-year-old about his decision to leave the La Liga club. He responded by explaining why Aston Villa were the best fit for him.

Pau Torres: Unai Emery knows how to touch a player's heartstrings

“Villarreal is my home, but I saw that something had to be done, that I had to go out, look elsewhere and the ideal place was the Premier League, and everything is going great,” said the Uruguayan.

“I have complete faith in Unai, the coach who got the best out of me a long time ago; the team is close to the top four, and it is not by chance that the team is there.” Aston Villa take their football seriously. It’s a result of hard work.”

The centre-back has stated that the former Arsenal manager was one of the factors in his decision to join the English club.
“Of course, of course,” she says. Unai is crucial in every way. “He brought out the best in me and completely understands me,” Torres said.

Aston Villa currently sit fifth in the table, one point behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur and three points behind league leaders Manchester City.

“The days go by and we are showing that it is not a flash in the pan, that there is important work behind it and that for the moment allows us to be at the top,” he said.

The Spaniard left his homeland for the first time in his career, and he admits that adjusting to life in Birmingham has been difficult.

“Adaptation is always, always difficult. “I left home, from Villarreal to another country, another competition, but I had the club’s, Unai’s, and my teammates’ full trust,” he added.

“We Latinos move as a group. There’s Dibu [Emiliano Martnez], Diego Carlos, Lex Moreno, Douglas, Buenda, Durán, and others. We get along great, but most importantly, families get together when we are apart and deal with the absences better. We’ve adjusted well and are enjoying English football.”
