The manager of a Champions League winner could end up replacing Howe at Newcastle.

There has been mounting pressure on Eddie Howe at Newcastle United in recent weeks, and it was only a matter of time before Jose Mourinho’s name was mentioned.

Howe has done an outstanding job with the Magpies, leading them to the Champions League last season and keeping them competitive this season despite a slew of injuries.

However, recent results have been inconsistent, and there is a slight sense that a small amount of pressure is building.

According to the Italian newspaper Corriere Giallo Rosso, former Chelsea and Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is being considered by PIF as a possible replacement for Howe.

While there is no mention of Howe losing his job, the CGR report suggests that PIF views Mourinho as a huge coup for their sporting projects.

Mourinho, now 60, is said to have already been offered terms by clubs in Saudi Arabia, but PIF is thought to be keeping him on their radar in case things go wrong at St James’ Park.

John Terry praised Mourinho as a ‘incredible’ manager after he led Roma to the Europa Conference League title in the 21/22 season. Mourinho became the first coach in history to win all three current European trophies.

Newcastle, of course, have enjoyed a meteoric rise under Eddie Howe, and there are no signs that he will be leaving anytime soon.

Mourinho’s style would also be scrutinized by the Toon Army, who enjoy an exciting brand of football not often associated with the Portuguese.

However, Mourinho’s track record of delivering trophies is unrivaled, and PIF may take note if they decide Eddie Howe’s time is up.
