Leicester City’s proposed claim against Everton has been described as “wildly optimistic.”
City are reportedly preparing a compensation claim after an independent commission found the Toffees to have violated profit and sustainability rules on Friday. Leicester will be joined in making a claim by Leeds and Burnley.
Leicester has a case for compensation, according to David Phillips KC, who ruled in May. If they want to file a formal claim, they have 28 days starting Friday (November 17) to do so. If Leicester’s claim is approved, a second independent commission will decide the amount.

According to the Daily Mail, the incoming new Everton owners, 777 Partners, will not be willing to fund such compensation payouts, which could be in the millions of pounds. However, the same newspaper reports that such a claim is regarded as “wildly optimistic.”
The claims were found to be valid because Leicester, Leeds, and Burnley were all relegated during the time Everton is suspected of violating the profit and sustainability rules.
