David Sullivan has spoken out on West Ham manager rumours, amid growing speculation about David Moyes’ future and links to one man in particular.
David Sullivan, the majority owner of West Ham United, rarely gives interviews these days.
So it says a lot that he has spoken out about the rumours and reports surrounding West Ham’s managerial situation and links to one man in particular.
‘Don’t believe everything you read,’ they say. But, as they say, “there is no smoke without fire.”
And there has certainly been a lot of speculation about Moyes and several other managers who have been mentioned as potential replacements, including a certain Will Still.
Still has stated in numerous interviews that he wishes to manage his beloved West Ham, so it’s no surprise that he was mentioned as a possible replacement for David Moyes during the dark days of last season.
Indeed, it was claimed that Still was on a six-man shortlist compiled by the West Ham board if Moyes had been fired in the summer.
With Reims in contention for a Champions League spot in Ligue 1 thus far this season, it is perhaps unavoidable. Given the constant speculation surrounding Moyes’ future beyond the end of the current season – when the Scot’s contract expires – he will be linked with the West Ham job again.
And Still isn’t doing anything to soften the blow.
With Moyes’ future in doubt, he publicly admitted last week that managing West Ham is his dream.
Then, Still was spotted at the London Stadium, cheering on Nottingham Forest. And this fueled online speculation that he met with West Ham’s majority owner during his visit.
Sullivan has now spoken out on the West Ham manager rumours, as speculation grows over Moyes’ future and links to one man in particular.
Sullivan told Claret and Hugh that he met with Still and that the Hammers fan could be the man to replace Moyes.
The billionaire said he admires the Reims owner but that it would be a ‘too big a risk’. He did, however, add the caveat ‘never say never’.
“No, I didn’t speak with him,” Sullivan responded.
“I admire what he’s done, but it’s too much of a risk.” Never say never in a few years. I believe he came because he is a true supporter.
“I’ve never talked to him. These are just shady reports that unsettle the club and are completely fabricated.”
Still continued his West Ham charm offensive after his visit to the London Stadium by liking a social media post depicting him as Hammers manager.
