Despite interest from Premier League clubs such as Liverpool, Leeds United are confident of agreeing a new long-term contract with Archie Gray.
According to Team Talk, talks between Leeds and Gray over a ‘bumper new deal’ are already underway, with Gray said to be happy to continue his career at Elland Road.
Gray signed his first professional contract in March, but due to his age, he was unable to commit to a contract longer than three years, so it only runs until 2025.
With that in mind, Leeds are determined to secure a new long-term contract for him by the time he turns 18 in March, in order to deter interest from elsewhere.
According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool is one of the clubs considering an offer next summer, while 90min.com reports that Borussia Dortmund, Arsenal, and Tottenham Hotspur have all scouted him.
Leeds are confident of reaching an agreement on a new Gray contract.
Gray is having a breakout season at Leeds this year, having appeared in all but one of the club’s 16 Championship games so far.
He has set an example for other Leeds academy players looking to break into the first team, and keeping him would be a huge coup with interest from top clubs already mounting.
Former Leeds striker Jermaine Beckford told Sky Sports that Gray has the potential to reach the “very top,” calling his performances this season “fantastic.”
However, this has been said about many players in the past who have then gone on to make their big move too soon, eventually losing their way and failing to live up to their potential.
With that in mind, it’s encouraging to hear that Gray wants to stay at Elland Road to continue his development, and hopefully an agreement will be reached soon.
