Fabrizio Romano, a transfer journalist, has now claimed that Newcastle United target Radu Dragusin will sign a new contract with Genoa.
Radu Dragusin’s name keeps cropping up as a possible defensive signing for Newcastle in January.
The 21-year-old Romanian has been in excellent form for Genoa and is attracting interest from clubs across Europe, including Newcastle, Tottenham Hotspur, and Arsenal, as well as AC Milan.
Genoa are attempting to sign Radu Dragusin to a long-term contract.
However, his admirers may be out of luck, as Fabrizio Romano has stated that Dragusin is expected to sign a long-term contract with Genoa.
According to the Spanish journalist’s post on X, Newcastle recently sent scouts to look at Dragusin, and Genoa wants to keep him until at least the summer.
“Both Albert Gudmunsson and Radu Dragusin will sign new long-term contracts with Genoa.”
“NUFC scouts recently in attendance to follow Dragusin as potential future CB target but Genoa want to keep both of them at least until June 2024.”
Newcastle was preparing a bid of £25 million for Dragusin.
The idea of a long-term contract extension appears to be merely to raise their asking price rather than to keep him, with Newcastle reportedly planning a £25 million bid.
Newcastle could still sign Dragusin before he signs a new contract, and if he’s keen on the move, it could force Genoa’s hand. On this one, only time will tell.
