Leicester City return to Championship action this Saturday when they travel to Middlesbrough’s Riverside Stadium.

The Foxes have been excellent in the second tier so far and are leading the league, but their form suffered a dramatic setback last week when they were defeated by Leeds United.

It was only their second league defeat of the season, both of which occurred at the King Power Stadium.

The club will hope that this is just a hiccup and that they can resume their winning ways against fellow promotion contenders Boro on Saturday. They come into this game still in first place, with a healthy lead over third-place Leeds.

Enzo Maresca has been holding his usual pre-match press conference ahead of that game, and the Italian has provided an important update on forward Tom Cannon.

What is the current status of Tom Cannon at Leicester City?

Cannon had spent his entire football career at Everton, with the exception of a loan spell at Preston North End last season.

The forward impressed while with the Lilywhites, leading to much speculation about his future over the summer.

There was uncertainty about whether the player would stay at Goodison Park and help Everton, go on loan again, or leave permanently this time. It wasn’t until the deadline that Leicester announced the signing of Cannon on a five-year contract.

The player has had a difficult time since joining the Foxes, as he has yet to play a single minute for the club due to injury.

His only appearance this season was a one-minute cameo against Wolverhampton Wanderers in August, while he was still at Everton.

So Cannon has been working hard to get in shape, as he will undoubtedly want to play for his new club as soon as possible. Maresca provided an update, indicating that the opportunity may be closer than ever.

As previously stated, Cannon has yet to be seen in a Leicester shirt, and with fans eagerly awaiting an update ahead of the Middlesbrough game, Maresca has now provided one.

Cannon is fit and may be available for Saturday’s game, according to the Italian, but he isn’t ready to play 90 minutes.

“Yes, finally,” he said during his pre-match press conference, according to Leicestershire Live. But he’s been with us for a week now, and he could be in the squad tomorrow. He’s fit after two months off and could play tomorrow, but not for 90 minutes.”

Cannon is expected to play regularly for the Foxes once he regains full fitness, as the club spent a significant amount of money on him and it wasn’t for him to sit on the bench.

It must have been frustrating for Maresca to see one of his new signings out for so long, but his return could come at the perfect time, as Leicester adds another quality option to their squad full of great attacking options.

Cannon will obviously be eased back into action, with fans hoping to see him on Saturday, but once fully fit, the player should be firing, especially in this side.
