Archie Gray, the Leeds United midfielder, has become a major topic of transfer speculation this month, with top-flight clubs all keeping an eye on his progress at Elland Road.

Leeds are hoping to get out of the Championship for the first time this season, and if they don’t, it will be extremely difficult to retain key players.

Archie Gray is already the subject of a lot of transfer speculation as we approach the new year and the January transfer window.

Who wants to sign Archie Gray now?

The Daily Mail recently reported Liverpool’s keen interest in signing the Leeds 17-year-old, with Jurgen Klopp looking to bolster his midfield setup in 2024 – Leeds are said to value the midfielder between £40-50 million.

Gray’s contract expires in 2025, and along with the Reds, Everton and Crystal Palace are said to be interested in signing him.

TEAMtalk has expanded on this by naming Borussia Dortmund as another possible destination, in addition to Newcastle United and Manchester City being said to be interested in the teen.

What about a new agreement?

According to the same report, despite Dortmund’s interest in Gray, the club is not concerned about losing him in the new year when the inevitable bids arrive.

Liverpool transfer news: Archie Gray eyed from Leeds

That is because the club is said to be “relaxed” about offering the midfielder a new contract, as he will be able to sign a contract lasting more than three years once he turns 18 in mid-March.

While he has 19 months left on his current contract, that is unlikely to be the case if he is able to sign this extension.

Gray needs a new contract as soon as possible, and the 49ers will almost certainly have one in place for March.

Until then, all we have to do is turn down any interest from clubs interested in him in January, which should be simple.

Losing Gray at this age would be a nightmare because we would not be able to get nearly as much money for him in the near future.

If that fails, we’ll just keep him indefinitely and watch him become a club legend. That would be great.
